Add aggressive exhaust pops, crackles, and bangs on overrun. The sportiest sound modification available — all via ECU software, no hardware required.
Pop & Bang (also known as a crackle map, anti-lag sound, or exhaust deceleration map) is an ECU modification that causes unburnt fuel to ignite in the exhaust system during overrun — when you lift off the throttle or change gear. The result is the distinctive crackle, pop, and bang sound associated with high-performance and motorsport vehicles. LutonRemap programs this directly into your ECU, giving your car an aggressive, sporty exhaust note without any physical modifications to the exhaust system.
Under normal driving, the ECU cuts fuel delivery when you lift off the throttle. With a pop & bang map, the ECU is programmed to inject small amounts of fuel during overrun, which ignites in the hot exhaust system. The timing and quantity of these injections determines the character of the sound — from a gentle crackle to aggressive bangs. LutonRemap tailors the map to your preference and your vehicle's exhaust system.
Subtle
Light crackle on overrun. Barely noticeable at low speeds, more audible at higher RPM. Ideal for daily drivers.
Medium
Clear pops and crackles on gear changes and overrun. Noticeable but not antisocial. Most popular setting.
Aggressive
Loud bangs and sustained crackle. Maximum effect — best suited to performance exhausts and track use.
Pop & bang maps are available for most petrol turbocharged vehicles including VW Group (Golf GTI, Golf R, Audi S3, A3, TT), BMW (1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, M cars), Mercedes AMG, Ford Focus ST/RS, Renault Megane RS, and many more. Some naturally aspirated and diesel vehicles are also compatible — contact us to check your specific model.

When mapped correctly and conservatively, pop & bang has minimal impact on engine and exhaust longevity. Extreme settings on standard exhausts can cause additional heat stress, which is why we tailor the map to your specific setup.
Yes — pop & bang works on standard exhausts, though the sound is more pronounced with a sports or aftermarket exhaust system.
Absolutely. Most customers combine a Stage 1 remap with a pop & bang map for both performance gains and the sporty sound.
Pop & bang uses small amounts of additional fuel during overrun. The effect on overall fuel consumption is negligible under normal driving conditions.
